Lyceum Preparatory Academy was founded to provide girls grade 5-9 with the opportunity to experience a challenging academic atmosphere, with personal attention to the needs of individual students. It is our intention to expand the school to also include grades 10-12 in the near future.
The name "Lyceum" is of Greek origin. The Lyceum is the name of the school Aristotle founded in 335 B.C.E. in Athens, Greece. The original Lyceum was used for physical exercise, philosophical dialogue, and debates. Aristotle, one of the world's greatest thinkers, contributed to the study of physical science, ethics, rhetoric, philosophy, literature and poetry, logic, and education.
At Lyceum, we encourage young girls to reach for their dreams and exceed their potential. We believe that a uniform, not just curriculum, should prepare young girls for the working world. Because we are no longer in the 1900s, we do not expect girls to be confined to skirts. Here at the Lyceum, we offer the choice of both pants and skirts. The uniform consists of a navy blue blazer, a plain white blouse, either khaki pants or a khaki skirt with navy blue knee socks, and black or brown shoes. The school will provide uniforms for fencing and rowing at no cost.
